Bradley's Boatyard
was founded in 1950 by Denys Bradley Sr. in Belize City. At the outset Bradley's
built only wooden boats, most of which were designed by Denys Bradley Sr. who introduced
many modern boat building techniques including diagonal planking double and single, strip
glued planing and laminated wood frames. Also, casting of lead keels and fabricating sitka
spruce hallow spars up to 70' long was introduced.
Bradley's also built many wooden
vessels designed by U.S. designers including Atkin & Co., Sparkman &
Stephen and Carlson. Several of these vessels crossed the Atlantic both ways
including a 54' Bradley designed Motor Sailer, the "VAGRANT GYPSY"
In 1977,
BRADLEY'S BOATYARD Ltd.
signed a contract with the Belize Estate Co. to build a 41' wooden tugboat to be
used for hauling log rafts through the Haulover Creek to their sawmill on the Belize
River. The design for this vessel was approved by Lloyds of London, a leading world
renowned marine surveying entity. Some 8 months later the M.V. "Austin Felix"
was put into service.
After completing Junior College in
May 1983, the youngest Bradley son, Stephen joined the Company. Although fiberglass boats
were being produced then, great emphasis was put on repairs of fiberglass power boats.
And, it was not until October 1990 that BRADLEY'S BOATYARD started producing its Pelican
line of Powerboats on a large scale. The first of the Pelican models was the Pelican 25'.
In April 1994,
BRADLEY'S BOATYARD
LTD., was formed and increased its level of production on a much larger scale.
In September of 1995, Bradley's built their first Pelican 35' Blue Water Hull and shortly
after exported their first Pelican 25' Powerboat to the British Virgin Islands. Later on
in August 1997, BRADLEY'S BOATYARD LTD. designed and built a new mold - the Pelican 28'
which had a sporty new look and a deep vee. Several orders for this vessel came even
before the new mold was completed.
Today, BRADLEY'S BOATYARD LTD.
maintains its position of being Belize's most progressive Boatyard. A commitment to
excellence in quality and durability along with customer satisfaction is first and foremost
in our ambitions. BRADLEY'S BOATYARD LTD. has also committed itself to satisfy both our
local and export markets which includes the Caribbean and parts of the U.S.A.
Boats exported abroad sport the name BRADLEY. |
